“Quality Fence built in the Valley”
In 1992, Bob Reid, and his son Bobby started Valley Residential Fence in the then small Mat Su Valley. From the beginning, Valley Residential Fence had a focus on quality. Constantly changing, designing, and evolving with the Mat Su Valleys needs, from farm fencing and wooden corrals, to industrial chain link.
Looking back, at the fences installed by Valley Residential Fence over the last 25 years, the continued improving of design and material selection is apparent. By the mid 2000s Valley Residential’s cedar privacy and wooden framed fencing transitioned from nailed together framing, to all screwed together framework. Round head ring shank nails were used, thanks to the paslode cordless framing nailer. Post spacing was decreased, and an additional mid rail became the standard. All residential chain link was also increased in quality, by discontinuing the use of the smaller diameter top rail, and cheap (weak) aluminum fittings. Line and terminal post diameter was also increased on the 4’ chain link, as line post diameter on 6’ chain link. Tie spacing was also narrowed. Today, Valley Residential Fence still sets the standard on residential fence quality.
Funny side note on the quality improvements. In the mid 2000’s Bob retired and Bobby took over. Bobby always hated smashing his fingers with a hammer trying to nail the fence brackets on the post, and convinced (more like argued with) his dad to let him use screws. As cordless tools improved, Bobby realized screwing the whole framework together not only was stronger, and the double top plate was pulled tighter together, but he could leave that hated tool *the hammer* in the bottom of the tool box where it belonged. No more smashed fingers!
“A change of scenery”
In 2012, The reality set in, that Bobby needed a fresh start in a new venture. Early 30s had brought on self inflicted (pretty serious) health issues, mostly from being stubborn and using his body instead of his brain. Bobby purchased an old semi truck, and went trucking. Bob, semi retired with summers off, still built a few fences here and there, and took care of repairs and warranty work. Bobby did a few small jobs with his dad to fill in the slow times, and Valley Residential Fence was put on idle. Well, Dad said Bobby would be back, and I guess Bobby is old enough to admit Dad was right. As of last year, Valley Residential Fence is back in business, with even more improvements on old design. We are once again striving everyday to build the highest quality fence available. Keeping our old slogan from the beginning, “Quality Fence Built in the Valley”
